Frequently Asked Questions

Why does McWritely need Keychain access?

Desktop device tokens are stored in the macOS Keychain so McWritely can stay signed in without plain-text secrets.

What is Accessibility access for?

Accessibility access lets McWritely read the text you selected and replace it back into the active app.

How do I adjust the system prompt?

Open Settings and update your default style prompt. That prompt adds your preferred proofreading or rewriting style on top of McWritely's base rewrite rules.

What data or information is collected?

McWritely sends the text you choose to rewrite and stores account, billing, device, and usage metadata needed to operate the service. It does not monitor your keystrokes or background activity.

How many devices can I connect?

Any number, as long as you approve each device with your Google account.

Are there student or other discounts?

Yes. Use promo code EDU2026 for 50% off.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open your Account page and use Manage billing to open the billing portal, where you can cancel the subscription or update payment details.

Do you monitor everything I type?

No. McWritely only processes text after you explicitly select it and trigger a rewrite.

How do I install or update McWritely?

Install the current download from the McWritely website. After that, Sparkle handles in-app update checks for supported builds.

Which apps does McWritely work with?

It is built for Mac apps where you can select text, including Mail, Slack, Notion, browsers, and editors. If paste doesn't work, your improved text is in your clipboard, so you can drop it back in place manually.
